The Arts Center in Elkins, WV is holding a solo exhibition of the work of Nancy Maunz. The exhibit will open Wed, Nov 23, 2022 and run through Thu, Jan 19, 2023. Meet Nancy Maunz at her opening reception Saturday, December 10, from 2 to 4pm

Nancy Maunz is a native of West Virginia. Her parents were born and raised high in the mountains. She spent many hours in the Swiss village of Helvetia roaming the hills, meadows and creek bed on her grandparents’ farm which later became her father’s hobby farm. That is where she began her love affair with nature.

Nancy attended Fairmont State University, where she was awarded a scholarship to study art and claimed the title Art Student of the Year. She also earned graduate hours in art from West Virginia University. Nancy taught art in West Virginia private and public schools for over 30 years. The longest stint was at University High School, in Morgantown. She has attended numerous lectures, classes and workshops where she studied with regional and nationally known artists. She has exhibited in cafes and galleries throughout her career.

Presently, she is active in The Thread art group, Morgantown Art Association, The Artists of Waldomore and The Arts Center in Elkins, WV. She is president-elect of the West Virginia Watercolor Society. Nancy primarily works in watercolor, but can also often be found on a bench in the park drawing. Her preferred subject matter is nature.

She says: “To this day, after a walk, my pockets bulge with pinecones, seed pods, flower heads and sometimes a feather or two. I love to lay them out and draw or paint these fragments from nature.”
